Prashant Kulkarni

Prashant Kulkarni

Prashant Kulkarni earned his Graduate Diploma in Fine Art from Kalawishwa Mahavidyalaya, Shantiniketan, Sangli. He is known for his creative landscapes and thoughtful compositions. This series draws inspiration from the vibrant Crawford Market in Mumbai and the bustling markets of Karnataka, known for their colorful displays of fruits, flowers, and sweets.
In his compositions, Kulkarni often uses tarpaulins—built for sun and rain—as a key structural and visual element. He captures scenes filled with fruit sellers and vendors offering worship materials, set against the bright tarpaulins that define traditional Indian markets. His characteristic use of vivid yellows, blues, and greens adds a lively rhythm to the canvas, while his play of light and shadow brings depth and movement that extend beyond the surface.
He has received several accolades, including the South West Zone Gold Award for Painting (2016), and honors from the Prafulla Dahanukar Art Foundation, Mumbai; the Royal Art Academy, Gulbarga; the K.B. Kulkarni Art Foundation, Belgaum; and the Council for Economic Growth and Research, Mumbai. Kulkarni currently lives and works in Kolhapur.
